NELA BROWN

NELA BROWN IS A CROATIAN SOUND ARTIST, COMPOSER AND SOUND DESIGNER CURRENTLY BASED IN LONDON. AFTER GRADUATING WITH A BA (HONS) IN SONIC ARTS, SHE GOT INVOLVED IN DESIGNING SOUND FOR CONTEMPORARY THEATRE, DANCE, INTERACTIVE INSTALLATIONS AND DOCUMENTARIES AS WELL AS EXHIBITING HER ELECTROACOUSTIC WORK.

IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, HER SOUND WORK HAS BEEN HEARD BY THE AUDIENCES ACROSS CANADA, ITALY, BRAZIL, SPAIN, CHECZ REPUBLIC, ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND US WHERE SHE WAS INVITED TO PRESENT HER WORK AT USITT CONFERENCE AND YALE SCHOOL OF DRAMA. NELA IS CURRENTLY UNDERTAKING PHD RESEARCH SUPPORTED BY EPSRC AT QUEEN MARY UNIVERSITY OF LONDON, WHERE SHE IS ALSO A LEADER OF G.HACK, A COLLECTIVE OF FEMALE RESEARCHERS FOCUSING ON SHARING KNOWLEDGE AND DEVELOPING INTERACTIVE MEDIA PROJECTS THROUGH COLLABORATION WITH OTHER UNIVERSITIES AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS. G.HACK IS AN AWARDEE OF 2011 QMUL SMALL GRANT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING AND TEACHING AND IS CURRENTLY INVOLVED IN A NUMBER OF HIGH PROFILE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS.

STROMATOLITE

INTERACTIVE SOUND DESIGN CREATED FOR USE WITHIN A SPECIALLY DESIGNED APP THAT WAS CREATED FOR THE MUSIC TECH FEST IN 2012, LONDON BY STROMATOLITE. PARTICIPANTS WERE INVITED TO DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO-VISUAL APP ONTO MOBILE DEVICES TO TURN COLOURS INTO SOUND.
