YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU

BY EDDIE ROBSON, LAURENCE WILSON AND DARAGH CARVILLE
THE DUKES PLAYHOUSE, LANCASTER

THE PERFORMANCE EXPLORED WHAT WAR AND CONFLICT MEAN TO YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY, A CENTURY AFTER THE OUTBREAK OF WORLD WAR ONE. SOME OF THE FIFTY MEMBERS OF THE DUKES YOUNG ACTORS AND YOUNG COMPANY PRESENTING THE PRODUCTION WERE THE SAME AGE AS MANY SOLDIERS WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR. WORKING WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE LANCASTER ARMY REGIMENT, THE PROFESSIONAL WRITERS AND PERFORMERS EXPLORED STORIES SURROUNDING THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN.

SHOCKING, VISCERAL AND PLAYFUL WITH A BOLD PHYSICAL DIRECTION, THE SHOW ALSO FEATURED A LIVE BAND WHOSE MUSIC WOVE IN AND OUT OF THE SOUND DESIGN ELEMENTS WHICH WERE ORIGINALLY MIXED IN SURROUND TO IMMERSIVE THE AUDIENCE (IN A ROUND CONFIGURATION) IN THE ACTION. THE EDITED AUDIO SELECTIONS SHOW SOME OF THE MORE PROCESSED AND HEIGHTENED SOUNDS THAT WE USED TO BRING THE EXPERIENCE ALIVE IN THE THEATRE.
